Carl Joseph Giffin

Carl Joseph Giffin, beloved husband, father, grandfather “Pops”, brother, nephew and friend, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 of an aortic aneurysm. He was 74. Carl was born in New Orleans and has been a resident of Metairie for 52 years and also a resident of Diamondhead, MS for the last 17 years. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Janice O’Neil Giffin; his children, Carl J. “Buddy” Giffin Jr, Allison G. Talley and Jenny G. Anderson; daughter-in-law, Trish Montelepre Giffin; son-in-laws, Chuck Talley and Stan Anderson; 14 beloved grandchildren: Carl III, Angela, Kelly, Melissa, Jamie, and Jennifer Giffin, Charles “Richard”, Robert, Christie and Lauren Talley, and Emma, Parker, Kate and Quinn Anderson; his twin brother, Clark West Giffin, Jr.; his aunt, Josie Rizzo Giffin and many other relatives and friends. Preceeded in death by his parents, Clark West Giffin, Sr and Anastasia Darcy Giffin. Carl graduated from Jesuit High School(’54) and Loyola University. He served in the Coast Guard onboard the White Alder. He retired as Senior Vice-President of Pan-American Life Insurance Company and President of National Insurance Services. Carl was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church. He was an avid sportsman who thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and card games with his friends and family. On Monday, March 14th, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1pm in St. Angela Merici Church, 835 Melody Drive(near Veterans Hwy/Bonnabel Blvd) in Metairie. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at the church at 10:30am. Burial will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery #1 following the Mass to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Manresa House of Retreats or the Jesuits Seminary Fund in memory of Carl J. Giffin.
