

Sister Eleanor (née Joyce) Strehle, MSC, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center. Born March 14, 1922 in New Orleans, La., she was preceded in death by her mother Adeline Fath Strehle and her father John Strehle.
She entered the Marianites of Holy Cross on Jan. 1, 1944, pronouncing first vows Aug. 13, 1945 and perpetual vows on Aug. 13, 1948. Sr. Eleanor taught at St. Cecilia, Holy Angels, St. Agnes, St. Mary of the Angels and St. Rita, all in New Orleans, as well as Holy Family in Port Allen, La. She served as principal at St. Andrew's School in New Orleans from 1978-1984. Later she assisted both the treasurer and the director of the Dept. of Institutional Research at Our Lady of Holy Cross College, a ministry of the Marianites. In 1992, she joined the staff of the Marianite Congregational Finance Office until 2003. Retired from that ministry she continued even more her outreach and care to her Sisters, family, friends and former students. In 2009 the Marianites called her to a ministry of prayer and presence at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center where she witnessed her life of joyful commitment and compassion to staff, administration and fellow residents often enticing those around her to sing as she walked its halls. She was an avid Saints' fan!
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Wisdom (5600 Gen. de Gaulle) on Mon., Feb. 6 at 2:00 pm. At 3:35 pm. those in attendance may share briefly the impact of Sr. Eleanor on their lives. Promptly at 4:00 pm. the Mass of Christian Burial will begin immediately followed by internment in Our Lady of Holy Cross Mausoleum.
