Frank Birtel III

Frank Thomas Birtel passed on September 1, 2011 at the age of 79. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Smith Birtel, his daughter, Rebecca Birtel Madura (Richard)of New Orleans and son, Michael Teilhard Birtel of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by his step-sons James W. Keating, III (Courtney) of Sun Valley, ID and William R. Bishop (Catherine)of New Orleans; his brother, Laine F. Birtel (Linda) of Sun, LA, his grandchildren Marie Elise, Mark Thomas, Katherine Anne and Ella Claire Madura, and his step-grandchildren John (Jack) and Margaret (Meg) Keating, and Charles (Bay) Bishop.

At the time of his death, he was University Professor Emeritus and Director of the Chair of Judeo-Christian Studies at Tulane University. He was a life-long resident of New Orleans.

Services will be held at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street. On Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Visitation will begin at 9am followed by mass at 11am. Burial will immediately follow at Metairie Cemetery.
