Julia Leovigilda Santos

Julia L. Santos, our beloved “Cucu”, died November 21, 2012 at age 92. She was born in Guantanamo, Cuba. She is the daughter of the late Antonio Perez Santos and Rosa Maria Trutie. She is preceded in death by her sister the late Maria S. Ibarra and brother-in-law the late Dr. Miguel Angel Ibarra. She left her much-loved Cuba in 1966 seeking political freedom. She settled in New Orleans where she has lived for the past 46yrs.

She will be remembered as someone who cherished her family and friends. They were her passion and delight. She believed profoundly in family traditions. She took pleasure in reading, listening to music, playing dominos and celebrating Christmas. She had a wonderful smile that was not only contagious but one that could light up a room.

She is survived by her nephew, Miguel Angel Ibarra and his wife Marilu, and grandnieces, Christina and Rosa Maria, her nephew William H. Ibarra, and her nephew Javier F. Ibarra and his wife Maria and grandniece Lisa M. Ibarra and grandnephew Michael J. Ibarra.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St.; on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at St. Patrick #1 cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.schoencanalstreet.com
