November 13, 1920 – June 22, 2012
Mathilde “Pat” Tassin McGinty, age 91, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2012 in Baton Rouge, LA at Landmark of Baton Rouge Nursing Home. Pat as she was known all her life was born on November 13, 1920 to Evelina Marie Breaud and Charles Joseph Tassin, Sr. at Kismet (the name of the family home) in Edgard, LA. She was one of 14 children. After graduating from Edgard High School in 1936, she moved to New Orleans and lived there until being evacuated for Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She attended Hotel Dieu Nursing School in New Orleans, LA, graduating in 1942 with a Registered Nurse degree. She married Edward H. McGinty, founder and manager of EZ Finance Company in 1946. They did not have any children. She was active in parish work at Mother Cabrini Church in New Orleans. Her husband died in 1998 and about 4-5 years later Pat moved into assisted living at Chateau de Notre Dame. She was evacuated to Baton Rouge, LA when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August of 2005. Because of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the flooding as a result of the levee breaks it was not possible for Pat and most of her relatives to return to New Orleans. She went to a nursing home in New Iberia, LA because there were no places available in Baton Rouge. She relocated to Landmark of Baton Rouge in December of 2005 when a room became available.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin Louise “Sue” Mele, whose lifestyle was also impacted by Hurricane Katrina; her twin evacuated to Santa Monica, CA and died in August of 2008 in Lakeway, TX. The twins did not have the opportunity to be with one another again after Hurricane Katrina. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Marcel, Charles, Jr., Rene, Robert; her sisters, Florence, Lucile, Edna, Inez, Jeanne and Yvonne.
Pat is survived by her siblings, Anthony Tassin of Sun City, Arizona and Marilyn LeBeuf of New Orleans, LA; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA with a Mass to follow at 12:00 pm at the chapel at the funeral home.
