Robert Julian Streger

Robert Julian Streger, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, NY and recently Tarpon Springs, FL died unexpectedly on August 17, 2012. Bob was an honored member of the New Rochelle community, serving in many of the city’s civic, educational and service organizations.

Born March 3, 1926 in New Rochelle, Bob received his Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College and Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II, stationed on Guam. In 1952, Bob joined Israel Streger Inc., an independent insurance agency founded by his father, becoming President in 1975. He dedicated countless hours of tireless service to his community. Bob served as President of the Chamber of Commerce of New Rochelle for 14 years and as President of the New Rochelle and Westchester Independent Insurance Agents. He was a District, Ward Leader and Chairman of The New Rochelle City Democratic Committee. He was a member of Rotary International since 1962, receiving the “Service Above Self” Award, The International Paul Harris Award and the “Hall of Fame” Award. Most recently, he was President of the Tampa Carrollwood Rotary Club. Bob served as a Board Member of The Y.M.C.A., the United Way of Westchester, the New Rochelle Scholarship Fund, Temple Israel and The Guidance Center.

Bob retired and relocated to Florida in 2007. He will be remembered by all for his kindness, wonderful sense of humor, his quick wit, and infectious laugh. Bob will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his two daughters, Cathy Hartney of Boca Raton, FL with her husband Kevin Hartney and two grandchildren, Chelsea Hartney and Ryan Hartney; and Nancie Whitehouse of Stamford, CT with her husband Tom Whitehouse.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the George T. Davis Funeral Home in New Rochelle, NY followed by a burial at Mount Eden Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
