He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Houston and June Smith Houston, both of Tazewell, and his grandfather, O.D. "Ott" Houston of Lone Mountain, TN.
Mitch is survived by his daughter, Heather Houston Tarver and husband, Brent. Two grandchildren, Katie and Shade, "Pappy's Babies". Brother, Mike Houston and wife, Karen, and niece, Chelsea, all of New Tazewell.
Mitch could run any piece of equipment you gave him. From dozers to dump trucks, he ran them all. He drove a truck most of his life, and drove for several companies including England's, CMT, and Tim Ousley Trucking. When he wasn't on the road, you could find him at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday nights turning laps. In 1999, he won the points championship in the Thunder and Lightning class and was voted Most Popular Drive. He also loved football, he played for the Blue Devils all through high school and remained friends with several of his teammates. Most of all he loved his daughter and grandchildren and the time he spent with them.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Tristate Nursing Home, Amedysis Hospice, and Middlesboro ARH for all the love and care that was provided.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM with the funeral service to begin at 1:00 PM in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Tazewell, TN.
