Peggy Coffey Payne

Peggy Coffey Payne, age 86, of New Tazewell, TN was born on November 18, 1939 and passed away on December 9, 2025 at Buchanan Place Health and Rehabilitation. Peggy was saved at an early age and was a member of Lone Mountain Baptist Church. Peggy’s greatest memories were growing up on Blue Top with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. John and Cornie Coffey. Sisters Eula Lee Rowland, Jean Bryant, Nellie Edmondson, Sarah Lynn Coffey, Mae Tolliver and Rachel Ramsey. Brothers Don Coffey and Jessie Coffey. Husband Fate Payne.

Peggy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Scott (Karen) Payne of Tazewell, TN. Grandchildren Morgan (James) Snodgrass, Tazewell, TN, Stone (Tullie) Payne of Knoxville, TN, Sydney (Jonathan) Collins of Nashville, TN. Great Grandchildren Paxton and Presley Snodgrass of Tazewell, TN. Sisters Sandy Anders, Barbara Scott, Phyllis Russell, Greta Mullins, and Diane Thompson. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to MaryAnne Banks and Jackie Wilkinson, as well as Smoky Mountain Hospice and Buchanan Place Health and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care.

There will be a receiving of friends on Thursday December 11, 2025, from 5 until 7 PM at Coffey Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM in the Coffey Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday December 12, 2025, at 11 AM in the Coffey Cemetery on Lone Mountain Rd.
