

Velma Vernice Williams Brooks, age 86, of Harrogate, TN, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away at her home on January 30, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Lingar Williams, who preceded her in death. Vernice was born on December 21, 1930, in Claiborne County, TN. She is the longest living member of Pump Springs Baptist Church, having joined there on February 7, 1942, and attended regularly until her health declined. She was the Sunday School secretary for more than 16 years. Vernice was also a substitute elementary teacher for Shawanee and Little Creek schools. Vernice touched many lives in her 86 years, she was a friend to everyone she met. She loved her family, her church and her Lord. She enjoyed reading good book (especially the Bible and her medical books and her grandchildren called her Doctor Granny). Gardening, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Vernice was married to Buford Brooks on June 7, 1952, in Tazewell, TN and they were blessed to enjoy 64 ½ years together.

Several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5-7 P.M. at Coffey Funeral Home in Harrogate with funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Scott Cemetery in Harrogate.

Pallbearers will be family. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Adult Bible Class of Pump Springs Baptist Church.
