Wade J. Whitaker

Mr. Wade John Whitaker age 93 of New Tazewell, TN was born October 26, 1916 and went to be with the Lord and his family October 5, 2010 at the Claiborne County Nursing Home. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tennie Collingsworth Whitaker, Son and Daughter-in-law , Ross David and Sue Whitaker, parents, James E. and Sarah “Cunningham” Whitaker, brothers, Charles “Doc” Whitaker, Claude Whitaker and Ray Whitaker. He retired from the School System after 17 years of service for the Claiborne County Board of Education and worked at Coffey Funeral Home for many years. He entered into Military Service January 4, 1942 was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran where he was Mess Sgt. for over 9,000 people. He was on a ship 33 days to New Guina, 38 days back to the states, almost starved to death, ate only dried beans. Ross David was 8 days old when Wade left for service and 18 months old when he returned. Wade was also a member of Eastern Star Lodge # 180, Odd Fellows Lodge # 447 , Royal Arch Masons Lodge # 162 and a member of American Legion.

Wade is survived by his loving Grandson: Jeremy Whitaker and Girl Friend Lynn Hill

Sisters-in-law: Gladys Brooks, Grace Edds, Jackie Collingsworth and Rachel Holt

and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

The family will receive friends after 4:00 P.M. Wednesday October 6, 2010 at the Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral service 2:00 P.M. Thursday October 7, 2010 in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel. Odd Fellow Service will be 7:00 P.M. Wednesday night in the Coffey Funeral Home Chapel . Burial in the Irish Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
