Wayne Johnson

Wayne Johnson, 82, of Thorn Hill, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was a faithful member and deacon of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a song leader for many years. He was also a former president of the Thorn Hill Singing Convention.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Mollie (Jefferson) Johnson; son, Timothy Johnson; sisters, Dorsia Dalton and Remadale Johnson; and brother, Austin Johnson.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva (Myers) Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Steve and Tina Johnson; grandchildren, Joshua (Hannah) Johnson, Caitlyn (Michael) Potter, and Aaron Johnson; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Hailee Johnson, as well as a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell. Funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM. Graveside service will be Monday, April 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Johnson Cemetery in Hancock County. Anyone wishing to follow in procession to the cemetery is asked to meet at Coffey Funeral Home by 9:45 AM.
