It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Aghnie Abi Rafeh, beloved wife of Farouk Abi Rafeh and loving mother of Raya, Kareen, and Rania. She passed peacefully at home in New York City on Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born in Zahle, Lebanon in 1953, Aghnie immigrated to the United States in 1979 to build a life with her husband, Farouk. Together they made their home in New York City, where they raised their three daughters and built a community of lifelong friendships. Aghnie was the heart of our family — kind, funny, and full of life. She loved being surrounded by friends, and her big, infectious laugh and natural warmth made everyone feel welcome. Fiercely loyal, she always advocated for and supported her daughters through every stage of their lives. Her humor, generosity, and vibrant spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew her, and her example will continue to guide our family.
In later years, Aghnie faced Alzheimer’s disease with the quiet strength that defined her life. Though the illness gradually took much from her, the memories she created — full of laughter, gatherings, and deep love for family and friends — remain with us always. She is survived by her husband, Farouk Abi Rafeh; her daughters, Raya (Jad), Kareen (Beth), and Rania; her beloved grandson, Oliver; and many loving family members in Lebanon and around the world.
