My recent need to retrieve my BMCC transcript for a work visa unexpectedly transported me back to Dr. Wasserman, a professor who left an indelible mark. She had a unique blend of strictness and kindness, and her endearing aversion to technology was something I always admired. Learning French as an adult isn't easy, and her consistent effort to connect and offer encouragement was crucial. Her dry sense of humor and sharp sarcasm, often lost on younger students, was a highlight of her classes. I'm truly saddened to learn of her passing, but there's a beautiful continuation: the French she helped cultivate in me back when I graduated in 2014 still thrives. Now, watching my own child attend French school feels like an incredibly special full-circle moment. Merci, Dr. Wasserman <3

I first met Carol when I was in high school.  She was filling in for Marvin, my Spanish teacher, and her husband.  Marvin and Carol were crazy enough to take a group of 15 and 16 years old to Spain on spring break.  I was lucky enough to be one of them and it opened up a whole new world for me!  We stayed in touch over the years, and I know how hard Marvin's passing was on Carol.  I send my deepest condolences to Carol's family, and I'm saddened by her passing, but happy knowing she is with Marvin once again.

Carol Wasserman hired me as an adjunct in the Borough of Manhattan Community College when she was Chair. I am very grateful to her. She worked tirelessly for our students until the pandemic hit. I think she would have gone ahead forever, since she loved and was committed to teaching. She was an educator with a bit of technology phobia. This made her extremely funny. On the evening we were told school was going to go remote, I happened to be in the adjunct room. I was telling some colleagues how to put the assignments on Bb. We invited her over, to see how it is done. Her response: she will tell students to snail mail her their assignments. She was unforgettable! My deepest condolence to her loved ones.

Carol was a dear mentor to me in the Modern Languages Department at Borough of Manhattan Community College. I'll always remember her dedication to teaching, her love for languages, and her telling me to get off that "ghost box" of a computer. The office won't be the same without her. 

Carol was a dear senior colleague in the Modern Languages Department at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Her encouragement and support meant a lot to me, especially during a few intense years when I was getting my PhD and teaching at the same time. Carol’s preference for evening classes was well-known, but our schedules overlapped a bit in the afternoon and I remember how she used to check in with me and others to see how we were doing, how our classes were going, what we were up to…. ¡Mil gracias, Carol, por tu amistad y apoyo!  ❤️ Margaret

I knew Carol Wasserman as a dedicated Spanish professor at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. She traveled broadly, loved her husband Marvin and had a deep appreciation of culture. She is and will be missed.
