Charles George Posternak, born June 25, 1940, in Lawrence, MA to Joseph and Rachel (Goldstein) Posternak, passed away peacefully in the company of his wife and son, Nancy and Jeffrey, the morning of Friday, August 11, hours after marking his 55th wedding anniversary. Chuck and Nancy met through friends at a party in his London Terrace apartment, and they married in 1968.
After his family, the two great loves of Chuck's life were Camp Teyva, a camp for young Jewish boys and girls in Brookline New Hampshire, which he attended as camper and counselor for 15 years; and Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, where he volunteered, from 1962 through his death, serving first as Big Brother and later as Trustee and Officer.
The oldest of three sons, he grew up helping his father with the family shop in Lawrence. After receiving a BA from Colby College in 1961, he served in the Coast Guard before beginning a successful career as a financial advisor, first at Dean Witter, and then following a core group of close colleagues from L.F. Rothschild to Oppenheimer & Co., where he worked from 1988 to his retirement as Executive Vice President at the end of 2022.
A world-class kibbutzer, lover of lobster rolls & fried clams, admired for his impromptu cooking and celebratory weekend meals of paella, barbecue brisket, and baked stuffed lobster, a consummate gatherer of friends for beach cookouts capped by fireworks displays and rousing camp songs, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by brothers Fred and Michael, and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10 AM on Monday, August 13 at Stephen Wise (30 w 68th, New York, NY). Cemetery service 12:30-1 in Orange CT (831 Derby Milford Rd, Orange CT).
Please consider donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters of NY in lieu of flowers.
