Danielle Wainer passed away on November 6, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, Paolo Di Marco, her father, Mario Eduardo Wainer, her younger sister, Leticia Wainer Espinosa, and her grandmother, Ourania Danelian.
Of Armenian-Iranian and Argentine descent, Danielle was born and raised in New York City. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, Danielle’s passion for international relations and Latin America led her to pursue a career that spanned the Human Rights Watch to a Fulbright Fellowship in Peru. She completed a dual Master’s degree through a partnership between The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University. After working for several years on Wall Street, Danielle accepted an offer in Bogotá, Colombia, breaking into the field of impact investing and social venture capital at Elevar Equity. Danielle's life was marked by her distinguished educational and professional accomplishments, but also by her remarkable character: she was fiercely devoted to protecting and caring for loved ones; she made friends and family laugh with her witty and quirky sense of humor; she had a loving and compassionate heart. With genuine concern and purpose, she managed to touch so many of our lives and souls.
Danielle exhibited exceptional resilience and dignity after her June 2018 diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma. She admirably advocated for herself while trying to fight for her life with incredible courage, strength, and stamina. Even in the darkest days of her illness, she brightened our lives with her beauty and grace.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Danielle Wainer’s memory be made to support the Burkitt’s lymphoma research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, under the direction of Dr. Ariela Noy. Donations can be made “In memory of Danielle Wainer” noted here:
