George was more than family — he was a steady presence, a loyal friend, and the kind of man whose quiet strength made every moment better. As my husband’s uncle and the best man at our wedding, he stood beside us on one of the happiest days of our lives, and his support has remained with us ever since.

We will remember his kindness, his warmth, and the gentle way he made everyone feel cared for. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his love will stay with us always.

May he rest in peace, knowing how deeply he was loved.

When I met George many years ago, I was grateful that he married Marie, my friend of 50 years. This was the man she deserved. George was quiet and kind, but also brilliant. His success as a scientist at Rockefeller University demonstrated his intelligence and creativity. His humility about this scholarship and scientific work was commendable.  I remember our first dinner with George and Marie. His generosity was revealed by a bottle of wine from his own collection left with our doorman on the next day. George was a devoted and loving partner. I believe that their love will live in their hearts and keep them together forever.

I was so sorry to hear about George’s passing. I have such fond memories of our chats in the hallway over the years — he always had such warmth, wisdom, and a kindness about him that made every conversation meaningful. He was always so kind toward our kids too, which meant a lot to us. He’ll be remembered as a wonderful neighbor and person. George was one of my favorite people when I lived in NYC back in the late 1970's.  He was a colleague of my brother's at Rockefeller University and I often reached him on the phone when I was trying to get hold of my brother. I remember these moments fondly as we often had time to chat a bit and exchange a joke or two.  I am glad I got to see him at my brother's wedding in 2024 and had the chance to catch up. He will be sorely missed by all I am sure.

I met George in 1978 just after I graduated from college.  I applied for a technician job at Rockefeller University where George was a reserarcher. He was 34 and I was 24. I didn’t expect to get the job but George and I hit it off and he hired me.  My first job. I worked for him for 7 years. In that time I got married and gave birth to my first child. He was a great boss and a patient teacher. I learned so much from him. I was so fortunate to have such an amazing mentor. I have so many fond memories of those years. It was work but we always managed to have fun too. I moved on from research and ended up working in the pharmaceutical industry. None of this would’ve been possible without George. I owe him so much. We stayed in touch over the years. I will miss his sense of humor and his kindness. The world lost a very special person.

In the short time that I knew George and have known Marie, very special friends of my late sister, they both showed their goodwill toward me through their myriad thoughtful actions.
I will remember George as a gentleman and a scholar with a clever, quiet, somewhat wry sense of humor.  Rest well, gentle soul.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Marie. I work for Nurses House, a charitable fund for Registered Nurses in need due to illness or injury. George and Marie have been some of the strongest supporters of our mission for many years.  I know George will be missed tremendously by those who knew him. My sincerest condolences go out to you and your family.

George and Marie aren’t just my neighbors  they became godparents to my British Shorthair, Jacques-Louis (jacqs). From the moment we moved in back in 2018, they welcomed us with warmth and open hearts. George adored Jacques, and Jacques adored him right back. When I traveled, George would lovingly brush him, feed him, and keep him company in the hallway. His care and kindness meant the world to both of us.

George and Marie have always been a steady source of love and support through the years. Jacques and I will miss George deeply, and our hearts are with Marie, whom we love dearly. -8A  Brigador Barris and Jacqs

George was a lovely gentleman who treated everyone with kindness and respect. Steve and I met Marie and George on a cruise that disappointed in many ways. We were seated with them for dinner and the 4 of us became lifelong friends. The highlight of George’s day, or so he said, was the 4 of us  playing as a trivia  team at 4:00 most days!  He had a wonderful sense of humor and will surely be missed. Although he is gone, he will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.

Our visits back to New York from New Zealand always included a lunch with Marie and George. Fond memories of times with the Manhattan Rugby Club gang will always be remembered. George being the constant friend and thoughtful kind gentleman.

It was a memorable cruise from NYC to the Caribbean in 2011, if I recall correctly, on the QM2.  Marie and George were assigned to the same late seating dining table with my friend, Deborah Saks, and me.
We enjoyed lots of laughs and fun excursions during the cruise.  And, we met back here in NYC occasionally.  Always laughter and interesting conversations.  George, a proud Scot, reminded me of the year I spent living in Aberdeen.  He will be missed.  
I hope that Marie will recall all the happy times she shared with George and those memories will bring some solace and smiles.

To lose a sibling is hard as all the memories that you shred of childhood are now gone. George was a great " big brother" and I will miss him so much. We shared many fun times in Scotland. May God grant him eternal peace.

During this time of sorrow, may you find peace and strength in the promises found in God's Word, and in knowing that others share in your grief. Losing someone we love is one of life’s greatest hardships, but the Bible offers a reassuring hope. Isaiah 25:8 and Revelation 21:3,4 speak of a time when “death will be no more” and God “will wipe away the tears from all faces.” I also encourage you to read John 5:28,29, which speaks of a future resurrection. These verses have brought me comfort during times of loss, and I pray they do the same for you. Please accept my heartfelt condolences once again.
