Ms. Irma Rivera

It is with immense sorrow that the family of Irma M. Rivera announces her peaceful passing on December 26, at the age of 92. Known affectionately by many as Maria, she was the youngest of five siblings and the guiding light for her family's journey from Cuba to the United States. She selflessly sponsored each family member's immigration, beginning with her beloved nieces, Ana and Magaly Garro.

Arriving alone in New York City at the age of 29, Maria's determination and work ethic shone brightly as she began working the very next day. She spent several years in the garment industry before dedicating herself to serving others at Amsterdam Nursing Home for several decades, where her loving care touched countless lives.

Maria was an avid traveler, drawn to the wonders of new cultures, exotic cuisines, and uncharted territories. Yet, her most cherished joy was her family. She was the heart and soul of her family, providing unwavering support and unity. Her remarkable independence was a testament to her strength; even in her advanced age, she chose to remain in her beloved NYC, refusing to move to a warmer climate.

To those who knew her, Maria's love for her family, New York City, and the Yankees was well-known. She was a diehard fan of the Yankees, never missing a baseball season and cherishing moments spent at the stadium watching "her boys" play live.

Maria's boundless curiosity and role as the family historian will be profoundly missed, but, undoubtedly, what the family will miss most is her undying loyalty, support, and most importantly, her boundless love. Her legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Rest in peace, dear Maria. Your memory will live on in our hearts, and your spirit will forever be a guiding light.
