Joseph F. Bruno (“Pouchon”) died suddenly of natural causes on Sunday morning, February 5, 2023, at the age of 47. Pouchon was born on 10 December 1975 to Pierre Bruno and Josette Mesidor, in Limbe, Haiti, where he grew up passionate about his family, his country, and his role in making this world a better, safer place.
Pouchon trained in the martial arts and held black belts in judo and tae kwon do, eventually becoming a Haitian International Kickboxing Champion. He had an almost superhuman ability to detect danger, and used this, along with years of dedicated training, to serve him as both Chief of Security at the Haitian Parliament and bodyguard for Prime Minister Latortue Gerard. He was proud to have served his country in these capacities, but ultimately felt the urge to provide for his growing family in a safer manner.
This instinct brought him to New York City, where he spent many years working in supervisory roles where he could help and serve others by offering them employment under his management.
Eventually, Joseph Bruno (“Pouchon Pep La”) could no longer resist the inspiration that he needed to do more to benefit the people of Haiti, and ran for office as Deputy of Cap-Haitien, Bas Limbe, and his beloved hometown, Limbe, Haiti. This political fight was an uphill battle, but he had a passionate love for the people who supported him and he dedicated his whole heart to his attempt to give them the dignity and leadership that they deserved. This passion for political action and public service comes from a long line of family members who have devoted themselves to Haiti’s vision of strength through strength.
Pouchon is survived by his loving wife, Jessica Bruno, his children: Tessa, Molly, Klyde, and Terry. His beloved sister Dominique Bruno survives him, as well as beloved half-siblings: Rose Michel, Lourdes Louis, Claudie Lezin, and Charles Eddy.
