
Joseph F. Ruppel, aged 92, passed away on January 20. 2026 in New York City. Joe led a life marked by academic excellence and a dedication to education. He graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1954 and later earned a Master’s degree from New York University.
Joe’s professional life was spent enlightening young minds as a teacher of Spanish and French. His passion for languages was paralleled by his love for travelling with his beloved wife, Rose. Together, they explored different cultures, enriching their lives and the lives of those around them.
Known for his kind demeanor, Joe was much loved by his family and students alike. His interests extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid reader with a keen interest in politics ad a particular fascination with World War II history.
Joe is survived by Rose, his devoted wife of 67 years. He was predeceased by his brother Phillip and his parents Margit and Louis Ruppel. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, with details to be announced later. Joe’s life was a testament to the power of education and the enduring spirit of love and family.
