Joyce was one of the greatest generation, and she emulated all that was representative of that special time. She started life in the 20’s and ended her life in the 20’s a century later. She was a lifelong New Yorker who loved everything about this great city. She was born in the Bronx to her father Jack McDonald and her mother, Ann Henning. Joyce was the toast of the town as she found her way through her teen years moving from NYC,to Washington D.C. and Pasadena, California.
She met her husband, Jack Foley, at a party in 1946 and married 2 years later. Her proudest achievement was her 3 sons; Jack, Gene, and Billy. She was also the proud Nanni to 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Joyce was a consummate independent New Yorker, who led a sophisticated but simple life attending the theater and cultural life across many decades, but her most treasured experiences were with her sons and grand and great grandchildren at Candlewood Lake and attending school events. Her favorite book was Gone With the Wind, favorite singer Sinatra, favorite politician Ronald Reagan. Her compass was honesty, character, hard work and integrity. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her compassion for all, and of course her ability to sing “Over the Rainbow” mom you are now over the rainbow. Godspeed!
A private memorial mass will be celebrated in Joyce's honor and a celebration of life will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to St. Jude Foundation or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
