We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Judith “Judie” Sharon Long. She passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2022 following complications from a heart procedure at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She was the eldest daughter of Myron and Doris Dorfman of Kenosha, Wisconsin, survived by sister Roberta Assa and brother Richard Dorfman. Judie married her college sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Long of Brooklyn, New York, in 1965 after meeting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They have been married more than 57 years and raised their two beautiful daughters, Amy Long Kanter and Terri Long-Kaline, in Searingtown, New York. After both girls graduated college, Bob and Judie moved to New York City in 1993, where they have lived ever since.
In addition to their two daughters, Judie has two wonderful sons-in-law, Jeffrey Kanter and Kurt Kaline, and four beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Sophie and Noah Kanter, and Olivia Long-Kaline. Bob’s grandfather, Max Long, opened his first mattress factory in New York in 1911, followed by the opening of a retail store, Long’s Bedding, in 1936 by Bob’s father, Harry Long. Bob took over the retail business in 1962, and passed it on to Terri Long-Kaline in 1997. Judie joined the business in the early 1980’s as a salesperson, and has been there ever since. In addition to sales, she enjoyed designing and creating the marketing campaigns for the business. The family business is still thriving and in its 111th year.
Later in life, Judie developed a love of photography, and launched her own business selling her photography to several stock photography agencies. Judie loved to travel and explore, capturing the beauty of the world and the people she loved through her camera’s lens. She lived life to its fullest and took in all that it had to offer. She had no regrets, which is a wonderful way to end a life cut much too short. She will forever be loved and always in our hearts.
If you would like to honor the memory of Judie, the family has requested that donations be made to the UJA Federation of New York at https://www.ujafedny.org/donate.
