Dr. Kathleen Elizabeth Kearney

Kathleen was born in Bayside, Queens to Patrick J. Kearney Sr. and Joan Shanahan Kearney on October 12,1960. Kathleen is survived by her two children, Hannah and Tommy. She graduated Cum Laude from Boston University’s Six Year Medical Program in 1984 with a minor in English.

After moving back to New York, Kathleen began working for the Hospital for Joint Diseases as an attending anesthesiologist. Kathleen then worked at NYU Medical Center and Bellevue City Hospital as an attending anesthesiologist, the Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management, and the Assistant Director of Anesthesia Services. She met her husband James while working at NYU, and continued to work there up until the birth of her two children.

In 2011, Kathleen began working at the Mackool Eye Institute and Laser Center as the Assistant Director of Anesthesia Services, and then as the President of her own company, Kathleen E. Kearney MD PC, that provided anesthesia services for Mackool Eye Institute.

Kathleen’s children remember her as a kind, loving, resilient mother who championed and supported them at every stage of life. Kathleen loved crafts, especially needlepoint and knitting, and had a passion for reading and literature, which she shared with her children.

A memorial gathering is scheduled for Saturday, January 17th from 1-3pm at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kathleen’s life.
