Oh, Lori . . . In case you were unable to pick up on this, our grandson Eric played in the Northern NJ Honors 6th grade band at the middle school in South Orange, NJ Saturday. Remember my first visit to your family's house in South Orange? If only I could have remembered the address, I would have driven there just to sit in front of the house and re-live (as I do in my memoir) that weekend. Who could ever have guessed that I'd be back there in 2013 . . . and I know you enjoyed the concert with us. The auditorium was crowded, but I felt you next to me and it made the day that much richer. Eric's instrument is the trombone and, since he's very tall, you agreed tghat it was fitting and loved the fact that he loved playing it.  Please know,also, that I refuse to take you off from my Facebook Friends page. You are so very much alive in my heart; why not allow others to enjoy seeing you . . . at least as long as I'm around. As I read all the beautiful passages I remember you with such fondness.  How sad for your friends and family to have lost such a bright light in their lives.

Although today is the actual day of your Yortzeit (according to the Hebrew calander, I will be saying the Yiskor prayer Friday night and Saturday morning at our temple where your name is inscribed in our Book of Remembrance. As Dorothy has already said, I think of you each and every day and miss you desperately. I hope you will be pleased to know that I have dedicated my up-coming memoir to you - in memory of your love and loyalty to all who were lucky enough to have been your friend. I know that wherever your spirit is, it's doing its job and continuing to help spread words of wisdom as only you were able to do.

I met Lori while working at El Al Israel Airlines in Los Angeles in the 1980's. Well, we never actually met in person, but I talked to her many, many times over the phone. 

Then, after being at my job for several years, I learned that my Aunt Hannah was a long-time friend of hers, and that our cousin, Linda, was also an old friend. The world is very small.

I'm sorry that we never got to meet on the same coast, but if my family considered you a dear friend, I feel as if I knew you well, too.

Charles, My phone conversations with Lori near the end of her life were inspiring. We shared memories of being English majors at Skidmore, and of our ongoing battles with cancer.  Her Cousin Doreen is now my friend, and Karen visited me at Penn last month when I was undergoing my treatments. Dearest Lori, I miss you terribly.  I have a wonderful picture of the two of us hugging one another, wearing enormous smiles.  Every night before I go to bed I pick it up, smile and kiss you.  When I'm particularly sad, I look up and tell myself that you're lovingly looking down at me, smiling of course, indicating that you are exactly where you should be -- pain-free and comfortable.  You were extraordinarily brave throughout your ordeal.  You are thought of daily with prayer and love and, although my heart will never completely heal from the darkness and sadness of your passing, your memory will never vanish.

Dear Charles, I am heartbroken at Lori's passing and so sad that I will be unable to be in New York to celebrate Lori's life with you.  Somehow, I truly believed and wished that this insidious disease would not claim our Lori. It is hard to know where to start!  Our New York cousins were always so glamorous.  From our shared Thanksgivings to summers spent in the Midwest,  I admired and looked up to Lori  as only a much younger child could.  As adults,  Lori shared family history and wonderful family stories that at times had me doubled with laughter and at times revealed sobering insights.  I will miss our phone calls and emails and just knowing that Lori was only a keyboard or dial  away.  I think of her so often and will miss her dearly

How sad that such a bright light has gone out. I will never forget the  compassion that Lori extended to me during my time of grief. Her smile could light up a room.  I know she will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy to you Charles and to all the family.

In addition to Lori's love of life, joyous personalty and character, what I enjoyed especially was how exceptionally smart she was. Politics, travel, history, philosophy, books, movies ,,,, she was always informed and interested. In the past year, during many doctor visits, where I served as "scribe" , she was always ready to be engaged in conversations and opinions. I treasure those times. Lori was someone special.
