Maureen McCully Winograd

Maureen “Mo” Winograd (née McCully), 79, of Phoenicia, New York; Manhattan; and Bonita Springs, Florida, originally from Jackson, Michigan, passed away on September 5 in New York City after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A devoted aunt to all, Mo was a lifelong activist and community leader. She served as a board member of the Naples Council on World Affairs (NCWA) and was a devoted leader of Great Decisions and the Southwest Florida Model UN, where she poured her talent and warmth into programs that elevated civil discourse and opened doors for young people. Mo earned master’s degrees in political science and criminal justice and spent 25 years as executive director of the Essex County Bar Association in New Jersey. She also served as secretary, treasurer, and co-founder of the Legal Services Foundation of Essex County (1983–2018). In Collier County, she chaired the ACLU Committee on Public Education and Information (2008–2018) and was vice president of the ACLU of Collier County (2010–2018). She was also active with the Naples Women’s Giving Circle, always advocating to level the playing field for students with financial need. Beyond her many professional and civic commitments, Mo loved Mahler and Motown, delighted in cooking and setting a table for family and friends, enjoyed world travel, and deeply loved her husband Mickey, her family, and many friends. She is survived by her husband, Mickey Winograd; her sisters-in-law Mona Winograd, Gail Winograd, Linda McCully, and Lynn McCully; her nieces and nephews Melissa and Daniel Hatter, Elicia and Jonathan Greenberg, Marc and Terry Winograd, Bob Winograd, Kristina and Elanders Ballard, Jessica McCully, Katie McCully, Sean MCully, and Colleen Stephens (McCully), and Lisa and Freddy Winograd-Cabos; and her grand-nieces and nephews Nate, Ethan, Jade, Juliana, Eliana, Camryn, Emma, Daniel, Lila, Haley, Michaela, Ave, Evie, Daisy, and Bowen. She was predeceased by her brothers Michael and Richard McCully.

A Mo Winograd Scholarship Fund is being established through Naples Council on World Affairs (NCWA) to benefit Southwest Florida high school students engaged in international relations programs. There are two ways to donate:
