Michael D Tanzer died peacefully at the New Jewish Home on Monday, January 15, 2024 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Hester Eisenstein, his three sons David, Kenneth and Charles, two granddaughters Angela and Katy, and his former wife Deborah Tanzer. A Harvard graduate in economics, Mike was an internationally acclaimed left analyst of the oil industry; author of several books including The Political Economy of Oil and the Underdeveloped Countries (1969); and a consultant to governments including Vietnam and Bolivia. He also helped to negotiate the annual stipend to residents of Alaska from the oil industry. Mike served for many years on the board of Monthly Review. Funeral to be held Thursday at 2pm at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, followed by Shiva until 6pm; Shiva also on Friday from 4pm to 8PM.
