Still thinking of Paul, beloved colleague of mine at the Brooklyn Philharmonic. We spent many an early morning in every part of the borough playing chamber music for schoolchildren, and Paul was 100% there for those kids. Such a beautiful musician and more importantly beautiful man. we will always miss you Paul.

Paul was without question an exceptional musician as everyone knows. I am so sad to read this news. My daughter is going to study music and I was searching for recordings of Paul's works to play to her for inspiration when I discovered this dreadful news. I was blessed to have met Paul when I was an aspiring musician, aged 18 in Natal, South Africa. Of course, I adored him and his talent, as we all did. He was a generous soul who taught me not to be deterred by those who wanted to make music an impenetrable institution available to only those had studied at a higher level. He said I should always find synonyms for musical terms thrown at me as the 'jargon' of music used by the intelligentsia is often only there to exclude - Love music and play. I did. What a wonderful person. I am so sorry for the deep loss to his family and all who loved him. Best wishes Cathy






Paul was a gentleman and a wonderful musician. I was delighted to enjoy his artistry during his brief stint as principal clarinetist with the National Chamber Orchestra (now National Philharmonic) in the 1980s. Rest In Peace, Paul.

Paul Garment was a wonderful musician.  Performing Brahms Clarinet Quintet with him back in the 1980's is a lifelong cherished memory.

I am so saddened to hear of Paul's passing, but heartened that he had a family.  Paul was my dear friend once.  We weathered the blizzard of '96 together with silly pet videos.  He was good company, a masterful musician, and is missed by all who knew him.

I drove Sarah and Paul to school at Burgundy Farms Country Day School for several years - they lived nearby and I went  by their house on my way to school.  I taught at BFCDS for ten years -left in 1970.  Enjoyed so much knowing them!

I am very sorry for your loss.  I knew Paul at Tanglewood in the mid 1980s.  He was a lot of fun to be around, and a great talent.

Please extend my heartfelt condolences to Paul's family. I knew him at Curtis and then, later, as a player for the NY premiere of one of my operas. His death comes as a shock to me. He will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. Paul was a very talented man who will surely be missed.

My memories of Paul reflect the ultimate professional. One of those rare individuals who could play many instruments masterfully. Besides being a great musician, Paul was humble. He will be truly missed.
