Renee Sarrazin nee Febvre, was born in Montceau-les-Mines, France, on December 14, 1930, the daughter of Jean Febvre, Charcutier, and Marie Chevalier Febvre. Her early years changed dramatically with the onset of World War 2 when her beloved Father was taken prisoner of war. He was gone for 5 Years and our Mom reminded us often of how difficult those years were.
She met her husband Marc, a butcher by trade, and they were married in 1951. The next few years were spent working in Bermuda at the Castle Harbor Hotel. From Bermuda they came to New York in 1953. She raised her children while providing invaluable support to her husband as he built his business, DeBragga & Spitler, Inc.
In 1995 she tragically lost her husband, Marc. She filled her days continuing to help at DeBragga and spent an enormous amount of time with her children and grandchildren. As if that were not enough, she found the time to volunteer at the Museum of Natural History and numerous other philanthropic organizations.
Renee is survived by her son Marc (Bernadette) and her daughter Claire Rennell (Howard), her grandchildren Kristen Sarrazin, Elisabeth Hosmer (Dan), Eric Sarrazin (Amelia), Dominique Rennell and Peter Sarrazin (Lisa), and 5 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Kirsten Hosmer, Caroline Sarrazin, Thomas Sarrazin, Charlotte Hosmer and Elise Sarrazin.
In lieu of flowers, our mother’s wish was that donations be made to the Culinary Institute of America’s Marc L. and Renee Sarrazin Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Link below.
