David P. Austill

David P. Austill, 75, of Newburgh, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born May 19, 1936 in Evansville, IN. He graduated from Reitz High School in 1954. After graduating from Evansville College, he went on to receive his Master’s Degree from ISU. David played football in high school and throughout his college years. He retired from Castle High School in 1994, after 30 years. During his time at Castle, he was a football coach, Athletic Director, and teacher. He opened and maintained the pool at Burdette Park and also built the Batters’ Box. David owned several rental properties in the Evansville area. He loved fishing, attending his grandson’s sporting events, and playing cards with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertis and Lillie Austill. David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra; son, Bryan; daughter, Lisa Huey (Brent); grandchildren, Rylan and Cole Royster, and Taite Huey; sister, Judy Happel; nieces, Kathy Dyer (Chuck), Debbie Hochstetler (Steve), and Susan Bohrnstadt (Brian); nephew, Mike Happel (Sarah); sister-in-law, Carolyn Reel; and great nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 AM, Friday, January 13, 2012, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Reno Demuth, with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday, 3-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
