M. Bernadine Pierce

M. Bernadine Pierce, 98, of Newburgh passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021. She was born September 1, 1922 in Herrin, IL to the late Elzie and Mabel Mason. She worked at Herrin ordinance plant, the Herrin Ration Board and at McDonald Douglas in CA as a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. She married “Bill” Pierce in August of 1945. She resided in Evansville until moving to Newburgh in 1953. She worked at Castle High School as a secretary in the guidance office for over 20 years. She was one of the founding members of Gateway Baptist Church. Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William Edward Pierce; her parents, and in-laws, Dewey and Bessie Pierce. She is survived by daughters, Janice Patton, Julie McIntosh and Gayle Hall; grandchildren, Jeffery Miller (Jodi), Amanda Driol (Daniel) and Amie Roach (Chris), and great-grandchildren, Katlyn Holman Roach, Hudson J. Miller, Karlie Holman Roach, Addison J. Miller and Mason Driol. Visitation will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261 starting at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. Private entombment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
