

Our Beloved Aki Leonard Gonzales Aleong was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Aki passed away at the age of 90 in his California home. Aki is the son of Agnes Vera Gonzaves of Saint Vincent and Henry Leong from Hong Kong. Aki grew up with brothers and sisters on the Caribbean island with diversity, culture, festivals, Calypso music, playing the bongos and maracas. Aki moved to Brooklyn New York in 1949. He was encouraged to pursue theater. At 16 he went to Brooklyn College for acting and performance art classes. He negotiated a lucrative wage for his roll as a goat boy in Teahouse of the August Moon. Aki has more than 130 screen credits across film and tv over six decades. He served on Screen Actors Guild national board as EEOC chair, lead in Media Action Network Asian American MANAA, Asians in Media AIM, Lifetime Achievement Award at Multicultural Film Festival, USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame and many more. He is a trailblazer for minorities and championed diversity and racial equality in film and tv. Aki is a talented singer, song writer, producer, and promoter with hits Shombalar and Trade Winds, instrumentals, and single hit records. He served in leadership roles at Capitol, Liberty, Polydor, Pan World Records. He was a businessman who was ambitious and had a entrepreneurial spirit. Aki was giving of his talents, time, service of others, mentoring and exalting others. In all his accomplishments the most precious and important thing is believing in Jesus Christ. He knew Jesus in the way, truth, and the life, no man comes to God the father, but through Jesus Christ. He knew that when he left his earthly body he would be in the presence of the Lord. He knew that God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish and have everlasting life. His legacy is believing in Jesus Christ, family, his contributions to this world. He leaves behind a wife, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, family, friends and colleagues. This is not good bye, it is see you later. We will reunite in heaven.
