Beverly Sue Aufdemberge entered the loving arms of her Savior on the morning of July 24, 2025, just two days shy of her 90th birthday. Born in Norfolk, Nebraska on July 26, 1935, Beverly was the beloved daughter of Sidney and Hertha Carrico and sister to Sandy and Gene.
In the spring of 1941, Beverly’s family moved to Van Nuys, California, where they became active members of First Lutheran Church. Beverly attended parochial school there and went on to graduate from Van Nuys High School in 1953.
A few years later, she met the love of her life, Orval Aufdemberge, a schoolteacher from Kansas, who had come to California for his first teaching assignment at First Lutheran. They were married on July 7, 1956 — a union grounded in love and faith that endured throughout their lives.
Bev initially worked as a teller for Valley Federal Savings before joyfully dedicating herself to raising her family. She and Orv were blessed with two daughters: Valerie in 1958 and Carol in 1965. Bev returned to school and graduated from Lawton Medical School in 1968, going on to enjoy a rewarding career as a medical assistant, where she managed the front and back offices of various medical practices until her retirement in 1981.
The Aufdemberge family eventually settled in North Hills, California, where Bev became a devoted member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church. She served the Lord faithfully in many roles over the years, including as Sunday School teacher, soloist, choir member, Bible study leader and trustee. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her guiding light and her anchor, evident in every aspect of her life.
In retirement, Bev embraced her love for music and performance, joining the Verdugo Hills Showtime Chorus—part of the Sweet Adelines International organization. She spent over ten joyful years singing barbershop harmony at different events and venues, even getting the opportunity to travel across Europe with her husband Orv and perform in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. She enjoyed singing and she often described this period as “the best 10 years of her life.”
In addition to singing, Bev displayed a multitude of artistic talents --
she sewed clothing and linens, created one-of-a-kind and heartfelt gifts with her knitting, needlework, and embroidery, painted stunning oil paintings, arranged floral masterpieces, and could have easily had a second career in interior design.
Bev was a wonderful hostess and cook; she enjoyed planning fun-filled gatherings for her family and friends and made every celebration special and memorable for her guests.
She found joy in life’s simple beauties – hummingbirds at the feeder, a garden in full bloom, a summer rainfall, and the music that filled her home and heart.
Those who know Bev well know she was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She longed for time with her loved ones and cherished those moments. You never had to wonder if she cared – you felt it in every check-in call, every carefully selected and beautifully wrapped gift, every handwritten note, every warm meal, every thoughtful gesture. Even in her final days, her thoughts were not for herself but for her loved ones – for their safety and happiness.
In addition to her daughters, Bev is survived by her six cherished grandchildren—Christopher, Brian, Jason, Evan, Erik and Emily; two precious great-grandchildren – Amelia and Luke – beloved nephews Phill and Steve, as well as countless extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched with her kindness, beauty, talent, and unshakable faith.
