In Loving Memory of Douglas Scott Garner

Douglas Scott Garner, lovingly known as Scotty, was born on February 10, 1969, in Savannah, Georgia. He passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, surrounded by the family who cherished him deeply.

Scotty spent his earlier years in various locations, but spent the past 25 years enjoying a life filled with friends, family, and good tunes in Los Angeles, California. He loved people freely and brought joy to everyone around him. If you were one of his favorites, you knew it—and there's no need to argue, because in truth, we were all his favorites.

His ready smile radiated the warmth and happiness he brought to every room, and his laughter was so contagious that giggle fits were common. He loved good music, especially rock and roll. His mother and sisters loved singing and dancing for him, much to his (likely embarrassed) amusement. A long list of songs will forever bring him back to our hearts.

Scotty was also a gifted artist, working with custom-made assistive devices to express himself on canvas. But his favorite pastime was holding hands, delighting in the surprised squeals of those unaware his grip was as strong as a bear trap. A friendly, exuberant bear trap. His strength was put to the test when arm wrestling with his father. Scotty often won, which made him smile, knowing his steel grip brought another victory.

Scotty's life and legacy remind us of what's important in life: presence, care, and loving the life you have. We're all better for having been impacted by his beautiful, joyful spirit.

He is survived by his father, Major Douglas Garner; his mother, Anita Clark; and his sisters, Misti and Christina Garner. Scotty was preceded in death by many loving relatives, including his grandmother, Ann Garner, who prayed for him daily. Other beloved family members include Kay Garner, Alan Kendall, Cassandra "Dondi" Garner, and Krystal Garner (Kiesel). They will forever hold his memory close.

The family would like to honor those at Momentum, the Chatsworth Day Program, Newport House, and Ranch House who took Scotty into their hearts and made him family. They were often our hands and expression of love to Scotty. They brought art, music, and a love for the outdoors to his life. We extend our deepest gratitude for the many ways they enriched his life.

Scotty’s life touched many, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. His family and friends will continue to honor him through the stories they share, the laughter he inspired, and the love he left behind. They are comforted knowing he is at peace and that they will see him again.
