Howard was born on September 9, 1949, in Glendale, California, to John Robert “Bob” and Ann
Collom. He spent his early years in Glendale and later moved to Reseda, where he graduated
from Reseda High School in 1968.
After high school, Howard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an F-4
mechanic. He was stationed near the Vietnam border for eight months before returning home to
his ailing father. He completed his service at the Air Force base located adjacent to the Los
Angeles International Airport.
In his civilian life, Howard worked as a draftsman and later pursued his love for nature and
people by working at Green Thumb Nursery, where he found joy in helping others and being
surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors.
As a young man, with the steady guidance and loving support of his father, Howard spent
countless hours building and painting model airplanes, cars, and boats. As he grew older, his
passions blossomed even further, embracing painting, running, biking, and gardening—pursuits
that not only brought him peace and fulfillment, but also expressed the vibrant, creative spirit he
carried throughout his life.
Howard’s greatest joy came with the birth of his daughter, Amanda in July of 1984. Later in life,
he met and married the love of his life, Roselle Estrellado. The two were married on April 23,
2004, in Van Nuys, California, and shared many wonderful years together.
Howard is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ann and Bob Collom whose love and
guidance shaped the man he became. He is survived by his devoted wife Roselle who stood by
his side with unwavering love; loving daughter Amanda and her husband Mike, and his
cherished grandsons Brayden and Colton. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Cathy, and a
wide circle of cousins and extended family of the heart, including John and his wife Joyce, and
Garrison and his son, Timothy—each of whom meant the world to him.
Howard will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, infectious laugh and unwavering
devotion to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
