Everyone at Colorscope/HIPZONE expresses deep condolences to the Uchiyama family and Joel's wife.  Joel was a great guy with an easy laugh. He always packed the most enviable lunches at the shop and was a great guy to work with.  We will miss him.

Very sorry to hear the news about Joel.  My condolences to Kathy and the entire family.  You all will be in my thoughts.  I will always remember the great times that we had on Ayres Ave (skateboards, bikes and jumps) and in Judo.  The countless bus rides to the Boys Club and the dime phone calls that we had to make when we got there.  My Mom always enjoyed the turtle that Joel found in the alley that he put in our backyard (thinking that it was ours that had escaped). Seek strength in family during this difficult time.

I am shocked to have read Kelly's post on Facebook.  I am so sad to hear this news.  I have and will continue to pray for you.

We joked about the two of us being brother and sister since so many people thought so.  After awhile, though, and getting to know Joel, it turned out they were right.  He was my brother in Christ and I loved him so.  I grieve his passing so much! To all the Uchiyama family, he was loved by many and will be missed.  I know he has a new body now and is rejoicing in seeing and being with his heavenly father-he is welcomed with open arms.

To Kathy and the entire Uchiyama family. We are so sorry for your loss. I worked with Joel for several years and we had great years together.  
Joel will be truly missed by those who knew him.

Joel, my first memory of our friendship was when I was 12 years old. You knew me from being introduced by Larry Hicklin in Judo. We had lots of good times together, being members of the KAIGANEERS. From life guard station # 25 to the top of the Hollywood Hills; messin' around with that CB radio, missing Judo practice that day. Remember? Your Dad made the comment to us, " you guys didn't make practice today....did 'ya?" I will always remember you as my easy going, happy-go-lucky friend Joel. You will be missed so much by us all. We are sending special prayers to Kathy, Mom, Dad, Eric, Eva, and Amy. It was a pleasure to be your buddy.
