Mary was born on April 30, 1936 in Pennsylvania to Carl and Bessy Koons. A large family, full of love and memories, was the foundation of her childhood growing up alongside 5 brothers and sisters.
Shortly after graduating high school, Mary met the man, that would later become her husband. On April 27,1956, she married James Wallace Marks in upstate New York. They were married for more than 66 years, during which time they raised two children, daughter Kathleen and son David. In time, through travel and experiences, the journey led them to relocate to Arizona, where they would reside for 5 years, continued on and ultimately settled in Santa Clarita, California and came to call that home.
Mary had a passion for education, children and overall supporting families. For more than 10 years, as she and James raised a family of their own, she contributed and gave back to the education system. Mary dedicated a decade as an Elementary School Assistant Teacher and an additional 3 plus years as a Preschool Teacher. Without question, she offered kindness, positivity and the will to inspire each everyone she spent time with, the true heart of a teacher.
Mary will be remembered for her infectious laugh and smile, quick wit, kind heart, and compassionate spirit. Greater than these would be the depth of the love she gave to our family and anyone fortunate enough to have spent time with her. We will carry you in our hearts forever, Love you always.
We thought of you today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have are memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake.
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.
