On Saturday, August 15, 2020, Michael (Mike) Hoefs passed away unexpectedly, as a result of an automobile accident in Bouquet Canyon, California.
Mike was born in Rochester, Minnesota, on October 31, 1975 to Frederick (Fritz) and Mavis Hoefs. He was an active child and loved many sports, but excelled at wrestling, participating and medaling at many state and national competitions. He graduated in 1994 from Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School.
While his formative years were spent in Mazeppa, Minnesota, his curiosity to experience more drew him west, first to Colorado and then to California. Mike ultimately found his community and place in Green Valley, California, where he lived for the past 8 years.
He was known for his generous nature, hearty laugh, green thumb, and willingness to help others. He was a hard worker and well-regarded heavy equipment machine operator, ending his career at Innovative Construction Solutions.
Mike is survived by his girlfriend Anya Glazyrina; cats: Houdina and Furby; siblings Gary (Lori) Hoefs, Carolyn (Michael) Schulein, Susan Claxton, and Stephen (Beth) Hoefs; the following nephews and nieces: Zachary, Nathan (Erin), and Adam Hoefs, Kelsey and Satchel Strong, Morgan Hoefs, Carter Claxton, Hunter, Owen, and Easton Hoefs; and an uncountable number of close friends. If you met “Minnesota Mike” you didn’t forget him. He will be missed.
He was predeceased by his parents and will be interred with them in Minnesota.
A memorial was held on August 22 in Green Valley. A celebration of life will occur in Mazeppa, Minnesota on October 10, from 1:00-5:00.
