Rick was born February 2, 1950 to Clifford and Marjorie Lyman in Lakewood, CA. After graduating from Palmdale High School in 1968, he worked his way up the ranks at Industrial Asphalt, Vulcan Materials, Blue Diamond, and P.W. Gillibrand before opening his own business, R&T Sales.
In 1993, he met his soulmate, Tammy. They wed March 27, 1999, in a celebration that also honored Rick’s sons, Jarrod and Jeremy, and Tammy’s children, Brett and Briana. Together, Rick and Tammy fostered several children and adopted their son, Alexander, in 2003.
Rick was happiest spending time with his loved ones and spoiling his fur-babies. His zest for living inspired those around him in many wonderful ways. His quick wit taught us that illegal isn’t just a sick bird. His practicality implored us to close the garage door. His refrigerator proved that everything can be saved. His rendition of La Cucaracha served to always cheer us up (and taught us a little Spanish, too).
His generous heart taught us how to treat others. His dedication to Tammy taught us how to love a partner completely. His advice and consistent presence taught us how to be a good father. His loyalty taught us that distance doesn’t matter when it comes to supporting loved ones. His life taught us the importance of family, humor, generosity, dedication, and love. Rick was an exceptional man and will be deeply missed.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife Tammy Lyman, father Clifford Lyman, mother Majorie Stevens, stepmother Vivian Lyman, stepfathers Robert Stevens and George Langer, grandparents Robert and Roy Self, brother Russell Lyman, and niece Alicia Cox.
He is survived by sons Jarrod (Brandy) Lyman, Jeremy (Carrie) Lyman, Brett (Kelsy) Urie, and Alexander Lyman, daughter Briana (Laura) Windell, grandchildren Chloe, Owen, Tristen, and Callum Lyman, Emerson and Beckett Urie, and Graham Windell, sisters Loretta (John) Cotsis and Sherrie (Don) Bouche, niece Danielle (Dustin) Gates, and great-nephews Austin and Nathan Gates.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Susan G. Komen organization. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for August 1st from 12-2 pm at Eternal Valley Memorial Park: 23287 N Sierra Hwy, Newhall, CA 91321.
