Serafin Herrera, age 62, of Littlerock, California, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025. Born in Las Cañas, Guanajuato, Serafin was proud to maintain a strong work ethic and a strong sense of duty to his family. After an arduous beginning in Mexico, Serafin and his family made the perilous journey to the land of freedom and opportunity: the United States. While he left his homeland behind, his sense of hope and purpose grew with the new experiences found in America. His greatest and most memorable experience was that of meeting his wife, Teresa Herrera. After only two years of dating, they married in 1984 and had two beautiful children.
Serafin worked tirelessly on building both a successful landscaping business and instilling the importance of hard work on his children. Serafin’s landscaping business was built on the pillars of hard work and honesty, and his success was reflected through his ability to maintain a devoted clientele. He cared deeply for his family and took every opportunity to create new memories and share his wealth of knowledge. You could often find Serafin volunteering at his children’s band booster events, chaperoning school field trips, participating in various school events, and meticulously checking his children’s work every night after school. The fruits of his labor, love, and dedication blossomed in the beautiful lives that his children now lead. Serafin’s daughter, Crystal, attended UC Berkeley and became an English teacher. His son, Nathan, attended UCLA and became a school counselor. Serafin proudly displayed his children’s accomplishments through decals on his landscaping truck and through conversations with his clients.
Serafin’s life was further enriched when he became a grandfather to his two grandchildren, Graham and James. He was an intentional, loving, and generous grandfather who felt joy not only spoiling his grandchildren, but supporting his daughter and son-in-law as new parents. He will be fondly remembered by his two boys as they grow and enjoy the life Serafin helped create. Serafin will be deeply missed by those he left behind and rejoins those who left before him. Keeping Serafin’s memory alive are his wife, two children, two grandchildren, son and daughter in law, parents, parents in law, siblings, and treasured extended family and friends.
We hope you think of Serafin when you tend your garden, or experience the good in this world.
