Sherry was such a loving woman. Born in St. Louis, MO to Kathleen Briggs. She was the middle child. Her older sister, Tammy, was her best friend since the moment she was born. Sherry loved being a big sister to younger brother, David. Sherry was a giving and caring Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews who she loved so much.
She married her first husband, John Smith and moved to his home in Clarinda, IA where she was immediately welcomed into the Smith family. Sherry and John welcomed daughter, Jennifer, in November of 1978 and were surrounded with unconditional love by John's parents, Lavon and Kenny Smith, brother Curt and sisters Vicki and Sonia. Sherry had a very close and unique bond with Lavon and Kenny. They loved her like she was their own. Sherry was loved by all of the Smiths and their extended family. In June of 1983, they welcomed son Michael "Shane" Smith. Sherry, John, Jennifer and Shane moved to the Santa Clarita area in 1984. In 1985, the tragic loss of 2 year old Shane put an ache in her heart that never healed. Son Chad Ryan Smith was welcomed into the world in February of 1986 and was adored by the entire family.
Sherry graduated from College of the Canyons with an Accounting degree and became the Controller for many auto dealerships. She was a brilliant leader and a hard worker with great attention to detail. She mentored many in her direct contact. Her skills directly improved the auto dealerships that she worked for. Sherry made quite a name for herself in the industry.
Sherry married her second husband, Steve Vico in 2000, and the family grew to include his children Brandy and Steve Jr. She adored her father in law, Mickey.
She absolutely loved being a Grandmother to Jennifer and husband Scott’s children, Brevin and Kylie. Sherry lit up the room with laughter that will always be remembered. A fantastic cook, she always hosted the family at her home. When Jennifer and Chad were growing up, she opened her home to all of the neighborhood kids and they loved her like a mother.
There are many, many people that were in Sherry’s life, and we’d like to honor them by this acknowledgement. We thank you for all you meant to her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her son Shane, mother and father in law Lavon and Kenny, her childhood best friend Kelly Willis and father in law Mickey Vico.
