It’s with heartfelt sadness we share that our mom, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, and great grandmother - Terrill Ann Shumate passed away January 12, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK surrounded by family. Services will be at Eternal Valley Chapel at 10 am Feb 10th in Newhall, CA officiated by Dennis Dodd. Internment immediately following.
In her final week, she was able to see friends, kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nephew/niece and neighbors. Many that she was unable to see, sent texts which we read to her. Though she was weak, when the doctor asked how many kids, grandkids and greats she had, she nailed it - even noting she had one great “on the way.” Her mind was strong to the very end.
Terry was 4 days shy of her 90th bday. She lived an amazingly full life. She was born in Orange, CA Jan 16, 1935 to Harold and Rita (Cook) Furtsch. In 1956, she met the love of her life - Clide Shumate. She flew to Thailand - where he was stationed on an overseas construction contract - where they married in June. They made their home in Castaic, California and raised their family near her parents and her younger sister Myrna Bell. She and Clide were married 30 years before his passing January 19, 1987.
Following his passing, Terry moved to Fairfield, Montana and ran her Mini horse ranch which brought her much joy. In 1997, Terry returned to California living in both O’Neals and later in Tehachapi before moving to Oklahoma in 2019 to be near family. Her doors were always open to family and friends. Her sourdough bread and shepherd's pie recipe will always bring memories.
She is survived by her sister , Myrna Bell, two sons Casey (Brenda) and Corey (Tina); four grandkids and their spouses/significant others Cody (Julia), Danielle (JT), Brad (Madeline), and Brooke (Julia); three great grandkids Keaton, Eris and Tripp. Plus nieces/nephews/cousins she loved dearly including (but not limited to) Shelly, Candy, Barney, Cody, Claudia, William, Ruby Elaine, Jim, Teri, Kat, Toni, Victoria, et al. She is also survived my her little companion pup Frosty who she entrusted to the care of her special, young friend Lindsey Young in Tehachapi.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Breakthrough T1D. As a Type 1 diabetic, she was a fierce advocate to help educate and find a cure (note: JDRF is now known as Breakthrough T1D).
Rest well good and faithful servant.
Terrill Ann Shumate
