

She was born June 28, 1924, in Catawba County to the late Clarence Lafayette Hawn and Annie Bell Sears Hawn. Betty was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory. She worked for Southern Hosiery where she later retired. After retirement, Betty worked at Bo Peep Grill with her son and daughter-in-law. She was a former member of the Hickory VFW Auxillary.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Annie Elisabeth Hawn, Henrietta H. Cline, Martha H. Hallman; brothers, Claude W. Hawn, Samuel L. Hawn, John H. Hawn, Joe C. Hawn, and Jack F. Hawn.
Survivors left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 71 years, R. Beryl Beard; sons, Robert “Bob” L. Beard and wife, Teresa, David B. Beard and wife, Sherry all of Hickory; grandchildren, David B. Beard Jr. and wife, Rebekah, Samuel R. Beard and friend, Chera Moore, Gregory A. Beard, Deidra B. Chennupalli and husband, Sashank, Angela Beard; great-grandchildren, Grayson Beard, McKinley Beard, Jackie Beard, Taylor Beard; sister, Barbara H. Lewis of Hickory.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, Newton with Rev. Bill Miller-Zurell officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:45 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton.
Serving as Pallbearers will be David Beard Jr., Samuel Beard, Gregory Beard, Deidra Chennupalli, Sashank Chennupalli, and Angela Beard.
The family would like to thank the staff of Trinity Ridge and Catawba Regional Hospice for their excellent care of Betty.
