It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Breverly Joyce Summers Johnson (affectionately known as BJ), passed away on November 29TH 2025 at the age of 77. While words cannot fully express the sadness we feel at this loss, we honor the life, love, and legacy of someone who touched the lives of so many.
Breverly was known for her “Hey baby girl, how you doin’ ”, her infectious laughter, and ability to strike a dance move on command. Born with a generous heart and a kind spirit, her life was a testament to compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished. Throughout her years, Breverly brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone, fortunate enough to be in her presence.
Breverly graduated from Unity High School, Class of 1966. She was very proud of having worked for the Catawba County Sherriff’s Office from 1983 to 2003 when she retired. She later came out of retirement to work at Peoples Bank as the receptionist. She was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader, Statesville District Lay Council Secretary, Shiloh AME Zion Senior Usher Board President, member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, Order of the Eastern Star Hickory Chapter, member of the WPCOG, Hickory City NAACP Secretary, and Friends of the Library volunteer. She will be remembered for her dedication to family (don’t mess with her grandkids), steadfast friendships, and the many contributions she made to the community. Her wisdom and guidance were a constant source of comfort, and her memory will continue to inspire all whose lives were brightened by sheer presence.
Preceded in death by her beloved mother, Margaree Summers Crosby; Breverly leaves behind a son, Larry Johnson (wife, Sharisse) of Charlotte, NC, daughter, Stephanie Johnson Craig (husband, Will) of Hickory, NC, grandsons Tyler Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Joshua Johnson and wife, Brittani, of Perry, GA, Alex Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Ethan Johnson of Hickory, NC; granddaughters, Ella Johnson of Hickory, NC, Isabella Hinds of Charlotte, NC, and Gabrielle Johnson of Charlotte, NC, and a host of friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

John 16:16 says “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.”. May her soul rest in heavenly peace.
