Catherine Wolfe Samples

Catherine Wolfe Yount Samples, “Cattie” age 87, of Newton, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was the daughter of William Sidney Yount and Catherine Childs Wolfe Yount. She was a 1953 graduate of Newton-Conover High School and a 1957 alumna of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree.

Catherine was an elementary school teacher, having taught 2 years in Atlanta, GA and 30 years in the Newton-Conover City School system at Shuford Elementary School, from which she retired. Catherine was a life-long member of Grace Reformed Church in Newton, NC.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her sister, Suzanne Yount Brock.

Catherine is survived by her son, Steven Samples, Darwin Samples his father, and her cousin Gary Yount, all of Newton, NC.

Catherine enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved all animals, most especially her pet cats and dogs. Catherine was a long time active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She sas an avid enthusiast of, and enjoyed watching, Atlanta Braves baseball, University of Georgia football, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons football.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Grace Reformed Church, 117 East J Street, Newton, NC, with Reverend Ryan Brakemeyer and Reverend Fred Thompson officiating.

Memorials may be made to: American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA); Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR); United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC); Grace Reformed Church Newton, NC.
