

She was born in Gastonia, NC on July 6, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Ellie Beatrice Haney and the late William Melton Goff, Sr. She was one of seven siblings. She had three brothers, Henry “Grady” Goff, William Goff Jr. and Charles Walter Goff, and three sisters, Ruth Ann Shirlen, Martha Elizabeth Hester and Elsie May Goff.
Dorothy was a wonderful mother to her six children. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Vickie Brookshire, and she is survived by daughters Phyllis Chester and Debra Martin and son-in-law Johnny; and sons David Grogan, Michael Hunter and Jim Etters and daughter-in-law Gloria. She had ten grandchildren and is survived by eight. She is also survived by a number of beloved great grandchildren.
Dorothy worked various jobs in her lifetime. Most notably, she worked in the medical field as a Licensed Practical Nurse until retirement after receiving her diploma from the Nursing program at Catawba Valley Community College.
She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Vale and enjoyed being part of the Adult Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She loved spending time with her family, reading and baking special treats for birthdays, holidays and family gatherings. She loved animals and enjoyed the company of her cat, Kitty Girl.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Corinth Baptist Church. The Rev. William Kanupp will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband, James “Dwight” Havner.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday at the church prior to the service.
