Jalean Elizabeth Bowman

Born December 15, 1920 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Stella Hunsucker.

When she was younger, she enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, spending time with church members, including cooking for special socials and family get-togethers. She also enjoyed sewing, especially embroidering designs on pillow cases. If you tried to find her at Abernethy, you had to try to catch her between Bingo, listening to music and enjoying fellowship at church services. Her smiling face and the warmth of her touch will not only be missed by her family but also all of her friends she has made while at Abernethy. With her favorite holiday being Christmas, we will all miss seeing and hearing her play the hand bells for all to enjoy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Rader; her second husband, Q.J. Bowman; daughter-in-law, Jane Rader; and grandson, Brad Callahan.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 2 sons, John Rader, Jr., of Claremont, NC, Eddie Rader and wife, Brenda, of Claremont, NC; 3 daughters, Norma Deal and husband, Karl, of Hilton Head, SC, Libby Callahan and husband, Roy, of Newton, NC, Debbie Leatherman and husband, Gerald, of Newton; 10 grandchildren, Natalie Gordon, Karla Deal, Kevin Sigmon and wife Jill, Scott Leatherman, Chad Leatherman, Todd Rader and wife, Rosa, Lisa Bumgarner and husband, Mark, Traci Feamster and husband, Stephen, Brooke Hull and husband, Eric, Brad Rader and wife, Ashley; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; her very close friend, True Wray and special nephew, Buddy Rader.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 20, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover, with Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. Anton Lagoutine officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:45 to 1:45 at the church.

Kevin Sigmon, Scott Leatherman, Chad Leatherman, Todd Rader, Brad Rader, and Mark Bumgarner will serve as pallbearers.
