Larry was first and foremost a physician who loved the challenges of medicine. He began his practice of gastroenterology in Newton in the mid-1970s, continuing until a stroke ended his career in 2013. During that time he was the first to establish the service of gastroenterology at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He is fondly remembered as one who would take time getting to know his patients, answer their questions, and hold their hand. Larry loved to talk, always enjoyed a good joke, loved to tell stories, and to teach. His love of travel took him too many corners of the world, always eager to learn what was around the next corner or over the next hill.
A private graveside service of remembrance was held at Eastview Cemetery, with Rev Randy Perdue officiating. Larry’s wife, Evelyn, has requested that memorials be made to the Salvation Army.
