Mabel Steele Davis

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Davis, and brothers Zack Steele and Sam Steele. Mabel and Charles were married for over 35 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Gomes and husband Mario; Leslie Foster; son, Sam Foster and wife Sonia; grandchildren, Nick Foster and Katie Foster; Philip Gomes and wife Lisa; Vincent Gomes; great grandchildren, Tristin, Dominic, Brady and Vivian Gomes; sister-in-law Helen Steele and nephew Zack Steele; and niece Julia Steele Dunaway and family.

Mabel's greatest joy was spending time with her children and other family. She was blessed to have three sets of beloved friends in Newton, Blowing Rock-Boone, and North Myrtle Beach. The beach was her fancy, but the mountains held her heart. Holidays were magical in her home.

Mabel was a talented interior designer for over 30 years. She had a brilliant sense of style. Outside of work, she loved tennis, bridge, and gardening. With children grown and away, she loved and cared for her dogs over the years, and they were with her wherever she went or didn't go! She served wine and cheese promptly every day at 4 pm.

She and Charles were active members of the First Methodist Church in Newton and later, Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock.

Losing a mother is an eclipse of the heart, leaving the world seemingly dimmer in her absence. Her courage and strength will sustain her children, whom she loved relentlessly.

A celebration of life service will be held at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Conover, North Carolina, on August 23, 2024 at 3 pm, with Dr. Tim Jernigan officiating. The family will receive at 2 pm before the service. A reception will follow the service. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
