

Norris G. “Mac” McRee, age 64, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Brian Center Viewmont in Hickory, NC. Born June 10, 1953, he was the son of Barbara Anne Canipe McRee and the late George Clifford McRee.
Mac was an Air Force veteran and an instructor of nuclear weapons at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. He was a beloved scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 387 of Hickory, NC, as well as an instructor at the Piedmont Council Merit Badge College. He was also a highly valued and respected member of the congregation at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Newton, NC. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, if you can call it that.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Barbara C. McRee of Monck’s Corner, SC; sons, Matt McRee and wife Amy Hartman of Los Angeles, CA, Kevin McRee of Hickory, NC; siblings, the Rev. Tim McRee and wife Beverly of Canton, NC, Laurie Carter and husband, Lonnie of Monck’s Corner, SC, Mark McRee and wife, Maureen of Charlotte, NC.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Newton, NC, with the Rev. Michael Cogsdale and the Rev. Tim McRee officiating. A Receiving of Friends and Family will precede the service at 10am in the church library. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory. A reception will be held following the inurnment at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 750 W. 13th Street, Newton NC 28658 or the Episcopal Foundation of Western NC, 900 B Center Park Drive, Asheville NC 28805.
