

She was born on August 5, 1943, in Catawba County to the late Fred Johnson Gibson and Bertie Setzer Gibson.
Pat spent her entire life and career in education finally retiring after 53 years part-time and full-time. She was a teacher, principal, and associate superintendent for the Newton-Conover City Schools. After retiring from public education, she continued teaching at Catawba Valley Community College, Lenoir Rhyne College, and Appalachian State University. She won numerous awards and honors during her career; among them the North Carolina State Principal of the Year (1985).
Three things she loved most were her family, church, and helping others. She loved to travel and collect things. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She virtually did all positions at her church including preaching, as she provided leadership. She was a dedicated and faithful servant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jynell G. Deal; her brothers, Ray Davis Gibson and Millard Gibson.; her nephew, Joe Gibson; and her niece Deborah Jones.
She is survived by nephews, Dennis Gibson, Bobby Gibson, Gene Gibson, and Mark Gibson; nieces, Lynne Gibson, Rhonda Gibson, Denise Biles, Beverly Reep, Melinda McAlister, Cynthia Gibson, Kevin Nadeau, and Teresa Neely; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-great nieces and nephews. Her family brought much joy to her life.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. She leaves behind a legacy of helping others. She asked that everyone be kind to one another and help those in need, especially the children.
A celebration of life service with be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Beth Eden Lutheran Church, 400 N. Main Avenue, Newton, NC 28658. The family will receive friends at 11:30am in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Catawba, NC.
