Patricia Rose Thornton Taylor, 88, of Newton, NC passed away at Catawba Valley Medical Center on Sunday, March 29, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Born on June 24, 1937, in Olean, NY, she was the daughter of Elbert and Gladys Thornton of Mohawk, NY. Patricia has been one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the past 66 years, and was very devoted to her faith. She loved Jehovah with all her heart and always lived a Christian life. Patricia was a very devoted wife who loved her husband dearly and was almost always by his side. Wherever you saw one, you would almost always see the other.
Patricia was also a very devoted mother who always kept her children close and adored them deeply. Even as they grew older, whenever her children came to visit and spend time with her, she would drop everything she was doing just to be with them. No matter their age, if any of her children were in need or facing a difficult situation, she was always there to help—no questions asked, just doing what a mom does. She was always willing to lend a hand or offer a shoulder to cry on—whatever was needed, she was always ready, giving all the credit and glory to God. She and her husband set a beautiful example of what marriage truly is and should be.
She was always full of life and had a wonderful sense of humor, truly living life to the fullest. She loved to travel, camp, and visit family. Patricia was always full of love, life, and energy—there was never a dull moment. She had the most beautiful smile, one that brought comfort and peace to everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Taylor of the home; her six children, daughter, Robin Taylor of Newton, NC, son, Joel Taylor and his late wife Annette of Newton, NC, son, James Taylor of Granite Falls, NC, son, Jamin Taylor and wife Nicole of Newton, NC, daughter, Tiffeny Velazquez and husband Tomas of Mountain View, NC, and son, Jared Taylor and wife Stephanie of Newton, NC; her brother, Allen Thornton of Frankfort, NY; her sisters, Gloria Wisenburn of Ilion, NY and Lenna Burritt of Syracuse, NY; her eight grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clair Thornton of Mohawk, NY; her sisters, Elberta Steevers of Mohawk, NY and Georgia Nelson of Newton, NC.
She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Newton, NC at a later date.
